To Fix Java issue with Blackboard

For students using MAC’s:

The information pertains to Java versions starting with Oracle Java 7, supported with Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above.
Java 7 Control Panel on Mac. The Control Panel allows you to find information about Java version and configure various settings to help you efficiently run Java on
your Mac.

To launch the Java Control Panel on Mac OS X (10.7.3 and above):

 Click on Apple icon on upper left of screen.

 Go to System Preferences

 Click on the Java icon to access the Java Control Panel.

 Select the Security tab. Click on the button that says Edit Site List. (You may also follow the directions for Windows (see attached) starting with “Select the Security tab”).

 Click on the Add button. You are going to add the (three) sites for Niagara.

The three sites that should be added are:
http://blackboard.niagara.edu and
http://bb9‐app.niagara.edu:8011 and
http://bb9‐app.niagara.edu

 Please note that after each add the Java will warn you that it might be dangerous to add this site.

 Click the Continue button

 When done click the OK buttons to exit

For MAC’s we find that Firefox is the browser that works best with Blackboard. It will NOT work with Chrome, and works with difficulty

with Safari.

Note: As of 9/8/14 Virtual Classroom, Lecture Hall, and Office Hours are not assessable using the iPad or iPhone

For students using PC's

For students using PC’s you will need to open the Java Control Panel (On Windows Click Start and then
Configure Java). These sites need to be added to the Java in your control panel on the computer that you use with Blackboard.
Please follow the directions at: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml.  or see the step by step instructions attached.

The three sites that should be added are:
http://blackboard.niagara.edu and
http://bb9‐app.niagara.edu:8011 and
http://bb9‐app.niagara.edu

NOTE: This only needs to be done if you downloaded the latest version of Java. If you had an older version
you should be fine.
